The 4-H pledge:

I pledge my Head to clearer thinking,

My Heart to greater loyalty,

My Hands to larger service,

And my Health to better living.

For my club, my community, my country, and my world.

4-H has a history of empowering young people with the skills to be a leader. Through this program youth are taught the importance of becoming involved in their schools and communities. Hands-on, educational programs focus on civic engagement and leadership, healthy living, and science.

Valentines Day cards

One Dare County 4-H club, the OBX Wave Riders, have been demonstrating the four H’s:  Head, Heart, Hands, and Health through community service projects this fall and winter. The OBX Wave Riders club is made up of youth ages 8-18. The club meets once a month during the school year with program topics related to STEM education (science, technology, engineering, and math).

In November, this group partnered with the Dare County Women’s Club to create Thanksgiving baskets for families and individuals in need.

They also have created over 150 Valentine cards that will be shared with residents at Peak Resources and Spring Arbor nursing facilities.

This winter, they have plans to care for their neighborhoods by holding road cleanup and trash collection work days.

Through 4-H, youth are encouraged to learn by doing and our young people are going above and beyond the call to make a difference in our community. Taking action and getting involved helps young adults make connections within the community resulting in strong partnerships.

As a 4-H club member, youth have the opportunity to meet new people, make new friends, learn about projects, and participate in club trips and activities, and more. Each club is unique, as YOU determine the focus of your own club.
