Alamance County 4-H Youth Livestock Teams Compete at Recent Livestock Judging Contest in Raleigh

ALAMANCE COUNTY 4-H YOUTH LIVESTOCK TEAMS COMPETE AT RECENT LIVESTOCK JUDGING CONTEST IN RALEIGH

Alamance County 4-H recently competed in the Judging in January Livestock Judging Contest on January 28, 2023 hosted by the North Carolina Junior Hereford Association.  Alamance County 4-H entered two intermediate individuals and one senior team.  There were 15 junior contestants (ages 8-10), 31 intermediate contestants (ages 11-13), and 55 senior contestants (ages 14-18).  This is the 8th year Alamance County 4-H has entered youth into the Judging in January Contest.

Intermediate individuals were Joseph Allred and Hutch Robertson.  Senior team members were Aiden Kernodle, Lane Whitfield, and Sage Robertson.

Team Results

The senior team placed 7th overall in the contest.  The senior team also placed 8th in meat goats, 5th in sheep, 4th in beef cattle, 10th in swine, and 8th in oral reasons.

Individual Results

All of our youth did exceptionally well for their respective knowledge and experience (this was a first contest for one of the youths entered).  Listed below are the individuals that placed in the top fifteen.

Joseph Allred (intermediate) placed 10th in swine.  Aiden Kernodle (senior) placed 3rd in beef cattle.  Lane Whitfield (senior) placed 2nd in sheep and 10th overall.  Sage Robertson placed 10th in meat goats.
