Alamance County Employees Receive Animal Welfare Training Through N.C. Cooperative Extension

N.C. Cooperative Extension – Alamance County Center’s Livestock Extension Agent Lauren Langley hosted a 2.5 hour Animal Welfare Training on February 8, 2023 for eight county employees upon request.  Participants were from the Animal Control Division of the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office and Burlington Animal Services.

Langley taught the participants on a farm in Snow Camp, NC where they learned hands-on how to body condition score cattle and equines.  In addition to body condition scoring, participants learned about cattle and equine nutrition, animal welfare, humane euthanasia, common cruelty cases, safety, and handling methods.  Langley instructed participants on how to use a pocket halter to safely catch, halter, and lead equines.  Each participant was provided with a resource folder for their vehicle as well as a pocket halter.
