Crop & Plant Production

Wheat is a common crop for Alamance County, with 1,740 acres harvested in 2023. This picture was taken in a field where our agent is conducting a variety trial.

So what is a variety trial? We planted eight soft red winter wheat varieties. Our collaborating grower will manage this trial throughout the growing season with normal Alamance County practices. We will then collect yield data at harvest using a weigh wagon. This information can help local wheat growers make informed decisions on variety selection for the future.
