Alamance County 4-H has a very active Youth Livestock Team that practices regularly during the summer months to prepare for competition. On July 31st-August 2nd, 2025, six youth attended the State 4-H Livestock Judging, Skillathon and Quiz Bowl Contest in Raleigh, NC. Alamance County 4-H entered one junior (ages 8-10) individual, three intermediate (ages 11-13) individuals and two senior (ages 14-18) individual in the contest. There were 108 judging contestants, 91 skillathon contestants, and 22 teams in quiz bowl (intermediate and senior). This is the Twelfth year that Alamance County 4-H has entered youth into the state contest. Top teams and individuals were announced on August 2nd, 2025, during a formal awards luncheon at the Talley Student Center in Raleigh, NC.
The following youth were entered into the contest: Corey Schmid (Junior), Caleb Schmid (Intermediate), Axton Harrell (Intermediate), Elaina LaRusso (Intermediate), Madelyn LaRusso (Senior), and Sage Robertson (Senior). Youth were coached by Lauren Langley, Alamance County Livestock Extension Agent. All youth competed in livestock judging, skillathon and quiz bowl contests.
All of our youth did exceptionally well for their respective knowledge and experience. Listed below are the highlights from this year’s contest.

QUIZBOWL
Alamance placed 3rd overall in the Intermediate Quiz Bowl and Alamance combined with Buncombe placed 3rd overall in the Senior Quiz Bowl.
OVERALL
There are overall individual awards given to the top 5 in the intermediate and senior division for point accumulations throughout judging, skillathon, and quiz bowl. The first place in each division is given a belt buckle and 2nd-5th are given a banner.
We are very proud to say that Sage Robertson placed 5th high individual overall for the senior division and received a banner!
